Methodology
How the Index is built — and why analysts trust it.
A composite score between 0 and 100, weighted across four input pillars and normalized per market. Below: the inputs, the weights, and the cadence.
The AutoRevolution EV Adoption Index measures the real-world maturity of the EV transition at the OEM level — not the volume of press releases. Each of the 67 OEMs we track receives a composite score every quarter, recalculated against current registrations, charging-point density, electrified model availability, and publicly stated electrification policy.
Inputs are normalized per market so that a Japanese OEM's relative charging coverage is measured against Tokyo-area infrastructure, not European averages. Composite scores are then weighted to produce a single global reading — the headline number — alongside per-market breakdowns that subscribers can pivot on directly in the dataset.
Data lineage is documented in the methodology appendix of every quarterly release. Where a number cannot be sourced to a primary OEM filing, regulatory disclosure, or verified charging-network operator, it is excluded rather than imputed.
Four input pillars, weighted
BEV + PHEV share of new-vehicle registrations per OEM, per market, normalized to the market leader.
DC fast-charging points per million population, weighted by accessibility in OEM's primary sales region.
Number of BEV/PHEV nameplates commercially delivered in 2024, plus range, charging speed, and price-band coverage.
Announced end-of-ICE date, EV capex commitment, battery sourcing contracts, and verified platform strategy.

Analyst FAQ
What enterprise data buyers ask before licensing the Index.
How often is the Index updated, and what is the embargo window?
The Index is published quarterly on a fixed schedule — Q1 in April, Q2 in July, Q3 in October, Q4 in January. Subscribers receive the dataset 72 hours before public release under embargo. OEM-level scores are never shared with the underlying manufacturers before publication.
What formats are available, and can I integrate the Index into our internal dashboard?
The full dataset ships as CSV (UTF-8, normalized column headers) and Excel (.xlsx, with a methodology sheet). Enterprise licenses include an API endpoint returning JSON for direct ingestion into BI tools. Sample integrations are documented for Tableau, Power BI, and Looker.
How are market boundaries defined — and what about cross-border OEMs?
Markets follow the United Nations geoscheme, with the EU-27 treated as a single market and the United Kingdom as separate. Each OEM is scored in every market where commercial registrations occurred during the reference quarter; cross-border brands are reported under each legal entity (e.g., Audi under Volkswagen Group EU).
What is the data lineage, and how is each OEM score verified?
Every quarterly release ships with a methodology appendix citing the primary source for each input pillar: registration data via S&P Global Mobility, charging networks via the Global EV Charging Infrastructure Index (our own data product), and OEM policy signals via direct filing cross-checks. Scores are computed once and frozen; corrections are issued as errata, never silently overwritten.
